The Real Feeding Time Fun Begins...
Max has decided he would like to learn how to use a spoon. And he's actually pretty good at it. He doesn't get a lot on the spoon (NOT a problem!) and he gets it straight into his mouth every time. I got him one of those bender spoons to help him get the food into his mouth and we tried it today, but I think he does equally well with the regular spoon. Although the bender spoon did seem to make it easier for him to get more food into his mouth. He tried a little last night with his yobaby (when it was almost done) and then today for his butternut squash/sweet potato puree.

He climbs!
Max's new trick is going UP the stairs. All the way up. All by himself. And he can now make it down the two steps between the kitchen and the family room all on his own.

Teeth!
I don't know if I will be able to get a picture, but last night I noticed that Max has THREE new teeth coming in all at the same time. He has two new teeth at the back on the top and one new tooth on the bottom in the front. Other than the excessive drooling, there weren't any real signs that he was teething. What a good boy!

Mother's Day Weekend
Max got me a lovely card and a picture frame. I still need to decide which picture is the best one for the frame and then I will add it to the collection of frames on my desk. :) And I guess he was just super excited to celebrate Mother's Day, so he got me up at 6am.
Being up so early did mean that we were able to go to the grocery store and get home and start cooking (lots and lots of baby food) before 9am.
Matt and Wendy had very generously offered to watch Max for us. So we had a date! We dropped Max off around 1145 and went to Kingstowne. We had lunch at Panera (french onion soup in a bread bowl = YUM!) and then watched Star Wars. It was fantastic! And the whole way home we had stuff to talk about from the movie. It was great to have some time with Mark and great to get to see a movie we both enjoyed.
For dinner last night I made chili. And Max ate it! First he had some yogurt, baby cereal, and butternut squash. But then he was clearly still hungry and he did the sign for more, so I gave him a bean. And then another. And another. He was loving it!

Max is smarter than his toy
Max was playing with his toy sorting bucket. He wasn't able to get the circle shape through the star hole. So his solution -- remove the lid and put the circle shape inside!

Fried Rice is the Gateway Starch
Last night Max ate a bunch of new foods, all in one meal. He has eaten rice cereal. He has eaten peas. But he has consistently rejected them in their non-smooth format. Last night Julian made Chicken Fried Rice for dinner. We had chicken, peas, broccoli, and fried rice. We also had some leftover white rice since I cooked up a little too much when I was making the rice to make into fried rice. Max likes to eat whatever I am eating, so he was happy to eat some broccoli. And some chicken. And then I tried him on a few peas and he went for them. And then he ate some of the fried rice. And then he even ate some plain rice. And he was loving it! As MitreBob said, fried rice is the gateway starch...
